Meet the Team

Here are the friendly patrons and staff of the ABC Fund.

Martyn Knight

Pantomime Actor

Martyn has been playing pantomime dame for the last twelve years. He is now resident pantomime dame at Eastbourne’s Devonshire Park. He says: “I am delighted to become a patron of your society, I am in awe of all the hard work you and your volunteers put in.”

Anne Bickmore BEM

Founded the ABC Fund in 1991. I set up the abcfund initially to raise children's awareness that there were many less fortunate than themselves. As a swimming teacher I was naturally in contact with lots of children. Nowadays I am still in touch with children and their activities through our five young grandchildren.

Val Caswell

Trustee / Treasurer

I took over the treasurer role in 2013 and then the trustee role, having Known Anne a number of years .I have worked in finance all my life however my role in ABC is so much more. I have lived in Peacehaven for over 25 years and have two grown up children. I enjoy hands on involvement with the charity and find volunteering a rewarding role.

Sandra Palmer

Trustee / Secretary

Since retiring from a very busy career in Event Management, I decided I would like to get involved in a charity, so I started to help with the abcfund. I find it very rewarding knowing the charity is helping children & families who really do deserve a special treat.

Kevin Mayers

I have been involved with the ABC charity for around 18 years, shortly after meeting Anne. During this time I have witnessed the charity grow from strength to strength, initially as a volunteer and now as a Trustee. I became involved as I appreciated the charities purpose and principles in helping under privileged and sick children. This being close to my heart having 2 special need adopted children myself. I can not think of a better way of spending my free time than to give to other children and their families experiences and pleasures they may otherwise never have.

Hayley Cox

Getting involved with the Charity evolved from my engagement at the Peacehaven Children’s Centre where I worked for the council as a Community Project Worker. It seemed a natural move at the time in 2013 to offer support and become a committee member with the abcfund.
With a background of working extensively with children, families and groups, for many years I am able to draw on a wealth of experience and engage with local people in the community to support and promote this great cause.
As a Forest school facilitator, I currently offer nature education opportunities in the woodland where young people’s wellbeing can be nurtured and they can experience the wonders of the forest environment through holistic learning and play.

My involvement with ABC fund started many years ago when I worked with special needs children in a local nursery, I would often ask Anne for specific articles to help a family in need - Anne would duly go to her swimming class parents and come back with the necessary items. Later the charity was also a great resource for my work with children and families who had been traumatised through experiencing domestic abuse. More recently, my husband who owns GPD Fencing and Landscaping, wanted a local children's charity for Gary and his team to fund raise and on 21.12.2016 the first of a yearly Christmas winter Solstice event was born at; 45 Arundel Road in Peacehaven. I was honoured to be invited onto the ABC committee to help out with other fundraising events throughout the year.
